Oak
A classic choice in both traditional and modern surroundings, our American White Oak is kiln dried to approximately 10%, and is used for internal joinery. Oak has an attractive, light colour with tonal variations and a visible grain. It is a strong, heavy hardwood, grown slowly in the Eastern half of the United States and Canada, and of the highest quality.
For stability, our newel posts and handrails are laminated in-house, with very careful attention being paid to grain matching. Thus ensuring quality timber to you at the best possible price.
Although called a ‘white oak’, it is very unusual to find an individual specimen with white bark – the usual colour is a light grey. White Oak logs feature prominent medullary rays which produce a distinctive, decorative ray and fleck pattern when the timber is quarter sawn, a signature wood used in the Craftsman style of the Arts & Crafts Movement.
All our Oak other than that used for handrails and baserails is FSC® certified
